How the comparison works

Your choices are compared with each model’s product details. A missing or conflicting value stays unknown and cannot satisfy a choice you select. The starting order helps you browse; it does not rate real-world performance.

Source dates appear with each link below. A source date does not confirm today's price or stock.

Choose between a lighter carry and a broader view

All these models use 8x magnification and 42 mm objectives. Celestron’s Nature DX weighs 22.2 oz with a maker-stated field of view of 388 ft at its reference distance. Nikon’s MONARCH HG weighs 23.5 oz with a maker-stated view of 435 ft. Maker measurements supply the comparison, without birding sessions or image comparisons; these dimensions cannot tell you sharpness or low-light clarity. That is a concrete carrying-versus-view comparison, rather than a verdict on optical quality.

Weights span 21.3 to 27.2 oz, so you can set a carrying limit independently of the magnification.

Use eye relief as a fit clue rather than a comfort verdict

Eye relief runs from 17 to 22.5 mm. Celestron’s TrailSeeker sits at 17 mm, while the Regal ED has 22.5 mm and weighs 27.1 oz. Read that added weight alongside the eye-relief figure before narrowing the choices.

You still need to try the eyecups with your glasses to judge personal fit. Match the objective and magnification on the seller page, and check availability before ordering.

Before you buy

Which is the lightest 8×42 here?

Bushnell's R3 at 21.3 oz, and it gives 21 mm of eye relief, but its 325 ft view is the narrowest of the ten. Celestron's Nature DX comes next at 22.2 oz with 388 ft.

Does eye relief tell me whether they'll work with my glasses?

It's the most useful number to compare, though eyecup design and your frames affect fit too. Three pairs give 19 mm or more (the Regal ED, the R3 and Bushnell's R7), and the other seven sit between 17 and 17.8 mm. If you wear glasses, Celestron's Regal ED gives 22.5 mm and still shows 420 ft, though it weighs 27.1 oz.

Does a wider view mean a sharper image?

Field of view only tells you how wide a scene fits at 1,000 yd. Sharpness, brightness and edge clarity aren't compared here, so the Outland X at 368.4 ft and the R5 at 390 ft could differ in ways these figures can't show.
