What's the lightest dry bag at the size you need?

At 5 L it's Sea to Summit's Lightweight Dry Bag View, at 52 g; ORTLIEB's same-size PD350 weighs 150.3 g, nearly three times as much.

Waterproof ratings describe fabric, not closures.

How the comparison works

Your choices are compared with each model’s product details. A missing or conflicting value stays unknown and cannot satisfy a choice you select. The starting order helps you browse; it does not rate real-world performance.

Source dates appear with each link below. A source date does not confirm today's price or stock.

A fabric water rating does not cover the closure

Sea to Summit specifies a 10,000 mm fabric hydrostatic head for the Big River and a 2,000 mm figure for the Ultra-Sil. Those measurements concern the fabric. They do not describe the closure or say that the finished bag can be submerged.

These dry-bag notes use maker descriptions; no soaking or seam-load trials inform the fabric comparison. Read the exact rolled or zippered model’s closure and immersion instructions before putting water-sensitive equipment inside. A missing fabric rating for NRS or ORTLIEB is an unknown, rather than a lower rating.

Equal bag volume can mean different carry weight

Sea to Summit offers several 5 L bags: the Big River weighs 135 g, the Evac Lightweight Compression weighs 98 g, and the Lightweight View weighs 52 g. ORTLIEB’s PD series at 5 L weighs 150.3 g. If empty weight matters to your packing, volume alone will leave these choices together.

Volumes run from 1.5 to 12 L. The NRS Expedition DriDuffel sits at the larger end, but its current weight is unknown here; a previous version’s weight has not been carried forward. Include closure style and compression design in your choice, rather than assuming equally sized bags pack alike.

Before you buy

Can I hold one of these bags underwater?

Don't assume so. Sea to Summit's rating is a hydrostatic-head figure for the fabric, and it says nothing about the closure that keeps water out, so neither rating makes a bag safe to hold underwater. Unless the maker's own instructions say a closed bag can go under, keep it above the surface.

Why is there no weight for the NRS duffel?

NRS's current Expedition DriDuffel page doesn't give one, and the figure from the older, discontinued version wasn't carried over. It's the only 12 L bag and the only duffel here, so it disappears as soon as you set a weight limit. At 5 L it's Sea to Summit's Lightweight Dry Bag View, at 52 g; ORTLIEB's same-size PD350 weighs 150.3 g, nearly three times as much. At 3 L, ratings split oddly: the 43 g Evac Lightweight claims 10,000 mm, so it suits you if that matters more than the 30 g Ultra-Sil's lighter build at 2,000 mm. Both rate fabric rather than closures.

Is the ORTLIEB weight exact?

Close to it. ORTLIEB gives 5.3 oz, converted here to grams. Its page also carries no fabric rating, so choosing any rating in the finder hides the PD350.
