How the comparison works

Your choices are compared with each model’s product details. A missing or conflicting value stays unknown and cannot satisfy a choice you select. The starting order helps you browse; it does not rate real-world performance.

Source dates appear with each link below. A source date does not confirm today's price or stock.

Compare helmet weights at the stated size

Bell’s XR Spherical weighs 285 g at size M, while Super Air R Spherical weighs 640 g at size M. Bell’s weight and use descriptions supply these helmet details; riding and impact assessments were not performed, and personal fit remains essential. The usable weights span 285 to 1080 g across 9 helmets, but the reference sizes are not uniform. Read the size beside the weight, then use the exact helmet’s size chart and adjustment instructions.

Bell’s Mips Evolve trail helmet has no usable weight here. A missing figure cannot justify treating it as a lighter option.

Riding style and protection claims answer different questions

Bell describes XR Spherical for road/gravel and trail, Local for street/skate, and Super DH Spherical for downhill. Those labels separate intended uses; they do not supply the full certification details. Read the certification information for the helmet and size you intend to buy.

The rotational-system descriptions include Mips Spherical and Mips Evolve. Their names cannot quantify protection in a crash.

Before you buy

Is Mips Spherical safer than Mips Evolve?

Those are Bell's names for its rotational systems, and this page has no impact results to set them against each other. The Local and the Sanction 2 name no rotational system, so any technology choice moves them out of the fits.

Why are Trail and Road/gravel and trail separate choices?

They're Bell's own use labels, and each choice keeps only its exact label: Trail holds the 2Twenty Mips, 5Fifty Spherical and Super Air R Spherical, while Road/gravel and trail holds the two XR helmets. Downhill and Downhill/BMX split the same way, so leave riding use open to compare across them. It tracks riding use. In size M, the XR Spherical and XR Mips for road, gravel and trail weigh 285 g and 310 g, and the four downhill and downhill/BMX helmets weigh 860 to 1,080 g. Neither a lower weight nor a Mips name means more protection. Fit comes from Bell's size guide, and your riding discipline sets the certification you need.

Do other sizes weigh the same?

Not necessarily, and a larger size could weigh more. Each weight is for the size shown, which is M on every helmet except the 5Fifty Spherical, where Bell gives 500 g for size Large. The 2Twenty Mips has no weight because its page lists L/XL for a variant sold as M/L.
