What separates golf-ball construction and cover choices?

Snell’s MTB Black LTD has 3-piece construction and a cast-urethane cover; PR4 has 4-piece construction and urethane. Their compression figures are maker claims.

For a different layer count, PR4 meets that preference.

How the comparison works

Your choices are compared with each model’s product details. A missing or conflicting value stays unknown and cannot satisfy a choice you select. The starting order helps you browse; it does not rate real-world performance.

Source dates appear with each link below. A source date does not confirm today's price or stock.

Piece count does not settle the cover choice

Snell’s Get Sum uses 2-piece construction and an ionomer cover. Vice’s Tour uses 3-piece construction with ionomer as well, while Pro Air pairs 3-piece construction with cast urethane. You can change construction without changing the cover group, or change cover while keeping construction.

This comparison reads ball specifications without hitting shots or measuring spin. The construction and cover fields describe the design; they supply no playing-performance verdict.

Compression ceilings preserve maker ranges, not a shared scale

Snell gives MTB Black LTD a compression range whose upper endpoint is 85; the finder uses that endpoint. Vice gives Pro Air a compression figure of 75. Different makers can use different measurement methods, so those numbers cannot support a precise cross-brand performance comparison.

Across the 10 balls, compression upper values span 70–100. Use the ceiling to compare maker figures while keeping construction and cover in view. Neither a lower compression number nor an extra layer predicts how the ball will behave for your swing.

Before you buy

Does a lower compression figure predict my distance?

The numbers are maker claims without a stated common measurement basis. They do not establish distance, spin or feel for your swing. Treat the layer and cover choices as construction preferences, and read the exact model’s description. Snell’s MTB Black LTD has 3-piece construction and a cast-urethane cover; PR4 has 4-piece construction and urethane. Their compression figures are maker claims. For a different layer count, PR4 meets that preference. Compression values of 85 and 90 lack a stated shared measurement basis, so small differences cannot predict your results.

How is a compression range represented?

The comparison uses the range’s upper endpoint, rather than inventing a single measured value inside it. That convention helps you compare the labels, but small differences between models remain an uncertain basis for a performance decision.
