How heavy is a hard cooler for the capacity you need?

Capacity alone does not set weight. Igloo Retro Picnic Basket and Trailmate 25 both hold 25 qt but weigh 5.5 lb and 10.8 lb.

The full range runs from 2.2 lb for 7 qt to 34.7 lb for 70 qt.

How the comparison works

Your choices are compared with each model’s product details. A missing or conflicting value stays unknown and cannot satisfy a choice you select. The starting order helps you browse; it does not rate real-world performance.

Measure the cooler with the lid and carrying route in mind

Empty cooler weights run from 2.2 to 34.7 lb. The Playmate Pal sits at the lighter endpoint; the Trailmate Journey sits at the heavier endpoint and measures 33.82 in long. Allow room to open the lid, rather than fitting a closed box tightly into a vehicle.

Ice-melt trials are outside this comparison of Igloo’s capacity, empty weight and exterior measurements. Those dimensions do not predict ice retention or food-safe storage duration. Food, drinks and ice increase the load you need to move; inspect the selected cooler’s carrying arrangement before packing it.

Cooler capacity does not tell you the space left for ice

Igloo’s Playmate Pal is 7 qt, while its Trailmate Journey is 70 qt. Quart capacity is available for 10 coolers; the Tag Along Too Spinner has no quart figure here. Its can count cannot fill that gap, because can capacity and volume describe different measures.

The Retro Picnic Basket and Trailmate both have 25 qt options. Their empty weights differ: 5.5 lb for the Picnic Basket and 10.8 lb for the Trailmate. Compare those weights with their exterior dimensions and handles before choosing something you will carry filled. Can-count assumptions, including any ice allowance, need a separate read on the maker page.

Before you buy

Do can counts line up with quarts?

Not reliably. Igloo says the Playmate Elite 16 takes 30 cans but the Legacy 20 only 22, and it rates the 52 qt Roller for one can fewer than the Trailmate 50. Igloo's can figures don't say whether ice is counted, so use cans as a rough guide within this list.

Why isn't the Tag Along Too Spinner in my results?

Igloo's page gives it a 33-can count but no quart figure, so it drops out once you set a minimum capacity. At 15.07 lb and 19.01 in tall, it's also the tallest cooler here after the Journey 70. Skip the Journey 70 if your trunk is short: it runs 33.82 in long.

Are the dimensions inside or outside?

Exterior measurements. Igloo gives exterior length, width and height, so they tell you whether the cooler fits a trunk or shelf; they don't say how tall a bottle can stand inside. Leave headroom for the lid to open, and remember the weights are empty, before ice, food and drinks. Nothing here measures how long ice lasts, so don't count on any of these to keep food safe for a set time.
