Mirrorless cameras: which lens mount and sensor format?

Nikon’s Z 8 and Z 9 both use Nikon Z mounts, full-frame sensors and 45.7 effective MP. Those filters do not separate them.

Megapixels alone cannot decide image quality; lens coverage, adapter support and the body or kit configuration need individual consideration.

How the comparison works

Your choices are compared with each model’s product details. A missing or conflicting value stays unknown and cannot satisfy a choice you select. The starting order helps you browse; it does not rate real-world performance.

Source dates appear with each link below. A source date does not confirm today's price or stock.

Lens ownership should come before megapixels

Nikon Z, L-Mount and Micro Four Thirds are different mount choices in this selection. Nikon's Z f combines Nikon Z with a full-frame sensor and 24.5 effective MP. A shared mount name still does not settle lens coverage, adapter needs or supported functions. If you already own lenses, resolve those details for the exact body before comparing resolution.

The sensor choices include full frame, APS-C and Micro Four Thirds. Choose the combination your lenses support rather than treating sensor format as a universal quality verdict.

Resolution describes the body, not the kit in your basket

Effective resolution ranges from 20.9 to 45.7 MP across these bodies. Those are maker specifications; this guide has no image comparisons or autofocus measurements. More megapixels alone cannot decide image quality. Each camera model appears once even when its linked page offers lens kits, so select the intended body or kit and inspect what is included before ordering.

Before you buy

Does matching the mount guarantee a lens will work as expected?

Check the maker’s lens compatibility guidance, including sensor coverage, adapters, and supported functions.

Are lens kits separate products in this finder?

Each camera model appears once. Product links may offer bodies and lens kits; choose the configuration you need on the manufacturer page. If those are your priorities, both remain candidates.
