10 models to compare

Can a bigger bear canister be shorter?

Yes. The 500 cu in Bearikade Scout is 8 in tall and 9 in across; BearVault's 440 cu in BV450 Jaunt is 8.3 in tall and 8.7 in across.

Your pack must accommodate that diameter; follow your land manager's accepted-model list.

How the comparison works

Your choices are compared with each model’s product details. A missing or conflicting value stays unknown and cannot satisfy a choice you select. The starting order helps you browse; it does not rate real-world performance.

Source dates appear with each link below. A source date does not confirm today's price or stock.

Sources for all 10 models

Food volume, pack fit and land-manager acceptance all matter

BearVault’s Sprint holds 305 cu in and stands 6 inches tall with an 8.7-inch diameter. Maker dimensions and storage figures describe the canisters, without meal packing or our own bear-resistance evaluation. Wild Ideas’ Bearikade Expedition MKII holds 900 cu in, stands 14.5 inches tall and is 9 inches across. Those measurements describe different packing commitments; neither gives a trip duration without knowing your food and scented items.

Usable volume is available for 9 canisters; UDAP’s NO-FED-BEAR has no usable capacity here. Weights retain the maker’s original units and qualifiers, including “just over” on some Bearikade figures, so avoid treating them as directly normalized weights.

Before buying, check the exact canister against your land manager’s accepted-container list. Size does not indicate approval. The Bearikade source pages describe later shipment, so verify timing before planning a departure.

Before you buy

Can I use any of these in a national park?

Your land manager's current accepted list governs the specific model. BearVault says BV ONE is not approved in Yosemite, Sequoia or Kings Canyon. Include food and scented items in what must fit; cubic inches alone do not establish days of food.

How should I compare the weights?

Bearikade gives Scout as 28 oz and Weekender as just over 31 oz. BearVault gives BV425 Sprint as 800 g and BV475 Trek as 1.03 kg. Weights retain the maker's units and qualifiers; BV500 Journey has no weight here because its page gives conflicting figures.

Why is the UDAP capacity unknown?

The source gives no usable volume for UDAP NO-FED-BEAR BRC, so a capacity minimum leaves it in Unknown details. Its 2.4 lb weight does not establish storage volume. If it meets your height and diameter limits, leaving capacity open keeps it among the matches. For more volume at less height, the Scout is wider.
