How the comparison works

Your choices are compared with each model’s product details. A missing or conflicting value stays unknown and cannot satisfy a choice you select. The starting order helps you browse; it does not rate real-world performance.

Source dates appear with each link below. A source date does not confirm today's price or stock.

A burner and a cooking system are different loads

MSR's weight figures span 73 to 597 g. The PocketRocket Deluxe burner has a minimum weight of 83 g, whereas the WindBurner Duo system's minimum weight is 597 g. Compare what each package includes before treating that weight gap as a reason to buy: the bare burner still needs a compatible cooking vessel and fuel.

Boil trials and meal preparation would be needed to go beyond the MSR figures compared here. Stove dimensions also need context. Read the maker's packing description alongside the measurements, then allow room for your pot and fuel container.

Fuel choice changes what you need to pack

The WhisperLite International uses liquid fuel, the PocketRocket Deluxe uses canisters, and the WhisperLite Universal accepts canister and liquid fuel. Follow the exact stove's fuel and connection instructions; a shared brand does not make every container compatible.

MSR gives the Deluxe a boil-time figure of 3.3 min per liter using MSR IsoPro. That fuel condition belongs with the figure. Other entries use white gas, and the Switch has no boil-time value here. These numbers do not promise a cooking time in your campsite conditions. Operate a stove only as its maker directs, away from tent fabric and enclosed sleeping spaces.

Before you buy

How do I compare a stove's weight with a system's?

The seven standalone stoves use MSR's minimum-weight figures and need separate cookware. The Switch, WindBurner Personal and WindBurner Duo figures include their pot. Switch uses MSR's complete-system weight; the other two use its minimum weight. This comparison does not establish a complete inventory of what each weight includes. If you want both fuels, it's the WhisperLite Universal.

Why doesn't the Switch have a 1 L boil time?

MSR gives a half-liter boil time for it instead. Doubling that would not be a measured result at the comparison’s volume, so the field stays blank. Weight doesn't buy speed: MSR’s boil times for one liter are 4.5 min for both WindBurners and 3.3 min for the 83 g PocketRocket Deluxe.

Will my water boil as fast as MSR says?

These are MSR's own 1 L boil times with the named test fuel: IsoPro for the canister models and white gas for the liquid-capable models. They do not promise the same time in your setup.

Can the liquid-fuel stoves burn any liquid fuel?

The fuel column groups these models broadly. The comparison does not list every supported fuel; the four liquid-capable models use the test fuel described above. Use the exact model's manual for that information.

Are two-burner car-camping stoves included?

They aren't. Every model here is an MSR backpacking stove or system, and the bulkiest is the WindBurner Duo, at 8 in on its longest side.
