Sketch your pad layout before choosing a floor area

Big Agnes tents here span 20 to 82 sq ft of floor area. The solo Copper Spur is at 20 sq ft; the largest Big House and Bunk House versions each provide 82 sq ft. Area gives you a starting point, but it cannot tell you whether your sleeping pads and gear fit the actual floor shape.

Floor length and width are not separate comparison fields. Use the maker's floor plan to lay out the space you need, and distinguish sleeping space from any external storage area.

More headroom changes the load you carry

Head heights range from 38 to 80 in and total weights from 1.09 to 8.28 kg. The solo Copper Spur combines 38 in of height with 1.09 kg of weight. Big Agnes's largest Bunk House weighs 8.28 kg and has 78 in of height, while the largest Big House reaches 80 in at 7.29 kg.

Compare a tent's own weight, headroom and floor area together. Greater interior space need not correspond to the heaviest tent in this group, and peak height does not describe headroom across the entire floor.

Weather suitability needs more than dimensions

Overnight use and weather exposure have not been assessed for these tents; the comparison rests on Big Agnes's size and weight figures. Packed dimensions and suitability for your expected conditions remain outside these fields. Read those details before planning transport or relying on a tent for shelter.

Follow the maker's pitching and anchoring instructions. A floor-area or height match cannot demonstrate performance in wind, rain or cold, and cooking equipment should stay clear of the enclosed sleeping area.

Before you buy

How many sleeping pads fit on the floor?

Area alone won't say, so look at the floor dimensions on each page. The Blacktail 2 floor is 90 x 52 in, while Tiger Wall UL2 starts at that same width and tapers to 42 in. Copper Spur UL1 tapers from 38 in to 28 in.

Is the peak height available across the whole tent?

It's the single highest spot inside, and the roof usually slopes down from it. The Bunk House 6, for example, peaks at 78 in over an 82 sq ft floor. A lot at the top end. Big Agnes's three car-camping tents peak at 72 to 80 in and weigh 6.8 to 8.28 kg; no other tent here tops 50 in or 3.74 kg. Those three tents are the Big House 6 and the two Bunk Houses. The Copper Spur and Tiger Wall tents start at 1.09 kg.

Among the tents sized 3, which weighs least?

Big Agnes's Tiger Wall UL3, at 1.33 kg for 38 sq ft. The Copper Spur UL3 gives you 3 sq ft more for 1.72 kg, and the Salt Creek 3 weighs 2.53 kg. The Copper Spur UL3 XL stretches to 48 sq ft at 1.83 kg, where the Blacktail Hotel 3 has 44 sq ft at 3.35 kg.
