Do deeper lugs make a women's hiking boot heavier?

Deeper lugs often add weight. Speedarc Matis has 3 mm lugs at 340 g; Moab Speed 2 Thermo has 6 mm at 445 g.

Winter Siren 4 Thermo Mid Zip weighs 540 g with 5 mm lugs.

How the comparison works

Your choices are compared with each model’s product details. A missing or conflicting value stays unknown and cannot satisfy a choice you select. The starting order helps you browse; it does not rate real-world performance.

Source dates appear with each link below. A source date does not confirm today's price or stock.

Winter features make boot weight a comparison with limits

Merrell’s women’s Speedarc Matis Mid GORE-TEX has a 340 g per-shoe figure. Siren Thermo Mid Zip Waterproof has a 540 g figure. These are the weight endpoints across 10 boots, but the maker pages do not consistently identify reference sizes. Treat the difference as a way to narrow choices, rather than a prediction of your own size’s weight.

Moab Speed Mid GORE-TEX has 4 mm lugs and a 10 mm heel-to-toe drop. Moab Mid GORE-TEX has 5 mm lugs and an 11.5 mm drop. Lug depth and drop describe different parts of the boot; neither establishes traction on your route or tells you how the boot fits your foot.

The selection includes insulated winter models as well as other hiking boots. Merrell’s dimensions and weight figures inform this selection; trail wear has not been evaluated. For MTL Thermo Rogue, lug depth and drop are unknown here; a blank cannot satisfy an active measurement filter. Choose the intended conditions first, then assess fit and the exact model’s winter or waterproof claims.

Before you buy

Are all of these waterproof?

Merrell claims waterproof construction on all ten. Four names include GORE-TEX and the other six end in Waterproof; this comparison does not record the waterproofing construction.

What heel-to-toe drop do these have?

Five sit at 10 mm, the two Moab 3s at 11.5 mm and the Siren 4 Thermo at 8 mm. The MTL Thermo Rogue 4 and Speedarc Matis don't state a drop, so choosing any drop hides them, and the Rogue gives no lug depth either. The six others run 340 to 410 g.

Do the Thermo boots say how cold they can go?

None of the four winter models (the MTL Thermo Rogue 4, Moab Speed 2 Thermo, Siren 4 Thermo Mid Zip and Speed Strike 2 Leather Thermo) comes with a temperature rating here, so judge warmth from Merrell's own description of each boot. They aren't all heavy, either: the Speed Strike 2 Leather Thermo weighs 375 g, less than either Moab 3. Fit and grip on your own trails are beyond what these figures can tell you, too.
