11 models to compare

How far is a hunting rangefinder rated to range a deer?

Ratings for deer span 350–2,200 yd. Vortex Triumph HD 850 rates 850 yd reflective and 350 yd deer.

Target types differ. Compare the deer rating separately from the reflective rating.

How the comparison works

Your choices are compared with each model’s product details. A missing or conflicting value stays unknown and cannot satisfy a choice you select. The starting order helps you browse; it does not rate real-world performance.

Source dates appear with each link below. A source date does not confirm today's price or stock.

A deer distance and a reflective distance describe different targets

Vortex gives Razor HD 4000 a deer-range claim of up to 2,200 yards and a reflective-range claim of up to 4,000 yards. Leupold’s RX long-range model has maker maximum figures of 2,000 yards for deer and 5,000 yards for reflective targets. Keep those target categories separate; even within a category, these pages do not document a common rating procedure across manufacturers.

Optical magnification is not a ranging-accuracy measurement

Magnification spans 5× to 8×, and objective diameter spans 21 to 30 mm. Vortex Triumph HD 850 has 5× magnification and a 21 mm objective; Leupold RX long-range model has 8× magnification and a 30 mm objective. Those viewing specifications do not measure range accuracy. This reading of maker range claims does not include distances measured in the field.

Carry weight and the selected measurement mode still matter

Weights span 4.6 to 10.1 oz. The Triumph sits at the lighter endpoint, while the Razor HD ballistic model sits at the heavier endpoint. Bushnell’s maximum figures have an unspecified target type here, so they cannot be substituted for reflective-target figures. Read each maker’s mode and range conditions separately; these comparison fields do not prove angle compensation, ballistic functions or accuracy in your conditions. A distance reading also cannot replace safe target identification.

Before you buy

Is reflective range the same as deer range?

No. Reflective range is the maker's rating on a reflective target, and it's the larger figure wherever both appear: Leupold gives the RX-5000 TBR/W a maximum of 5,000 yd reflective and 2,000 yd on deer. Bushnell gives a maximum with no target type instead, so its reflective column stays blank. Each maker sets its own deer rating, so the same number from Leupold and Vortex may not mean the same reach. All of these are maker ratings, and the distance you actually get on an animal in brush or poor light can fall short of them. A number in a name usually indicates reflective or maximum range rather than the deer rating; the Triumph example in the hero shows that distinction. The three 5x units weigh 4.6 to 5.1 oz, while every 7x or 8x weighs at least 7.6 oz.

Why do the weight and deer-range menus show so few results?

Both pick one exact value rather than a limit, so choosing 6.4 oz shows only the two Bushnells, and choosing 900 yd shows only Leupold's RX-1400i and RX-FullDraw 5. Leave them on Any and read the columns when you want everything under a weight or over a range.

Do these have ballistic or angle compensation?

Only one name here says Ballistic outright, the Vortex Razor HD 4000 GB. Angle and ballistic features aren't part of this comparison, so if you need them, read the maker's page for what each model calculates.
