Gauge or single-DIN marine stereo: what changes?

Weather rating and CDs. Five of the six BOSS gauge units state IPX5 or IPX6; none of the three single-DIN units states an IP rating.

Of the eight units that say, only the single-DIN MR762BRGB plays them. All ten have Bluetooth and USB.

How the comparison works

Your choices are compared with each model’s product details. A missing or conflicting value stays unknown and cannot satisfy a choice you select. The starting order helps you browse; it does not rate real-world performance.

Source dates appear with each link below. A source date does not confirm today's price or stock.

The console opening decides which receiver can go in

BOSS Audio Systems has gauge receivers needing a 3.13 in cutout and others needing a 3.55 in cutout, alongside single-DIN receivers. Similar-looking gauge faces therefore do not imply the same opening. Measure the console opening and read the exact wiring and installation documentation before choosing a replacement.

Bluetooth and USB appear on all 10 receivers, so those features do not separate the options here. Mount format and CD playback can still differ. Water-resistance labels also need the selected unit’s installation conditions attached; a marine label is not permission to ignore wiring or exposure guidance.

Advertised amplifier power cannot stand in for RMS output

JVC’s marine digital media receiver has a 22 W per-channel RMS figure. RMS output is available for just 1 receiver in this selection, while advertised per-channel figures span 50 to 60 W. Keep those measures apart and read rating conditions before comparing amplifier output.

Maker mounting and power descriptions support this receiver comparison, with no onboard listening or electrical measurements. For the installation, verify speaker compatibility, power wiring and any amplifier connections against the exact unit’s documentation. An advertised wattage alone does not tell you the sound level or quality aboard your boat.

Before you buy

Does a gauge label tell me the hole size?

Not by itself. BOSS gives the cutout for each gauge unit: 3 in on the MGR450B, MGR350B and MGV520B, 3.13 in on the MGR300B and MGV500B, and 3.55 in on the MGV550B. No opening size is given here for the single-DIN units or the JVC, so before you cut, go by the installation manual for the hole, wiring, clearance and exposure limits. For a round dash hole, each gauge unit gives its cutout.

Are advertised watts the same as RMS watts?

The one unit that gives both shows the gap: JVC rates the KD-X38MBS at 50 W maximum per channel but 22 W per channel of full-bandwidth power at less than 1% THD. BOSS gives advertised figures only, 60 W per channel on the gauge units and the same maximum figure as JVC on two single-DIN models, so if you need an RMS figure, only the JVC gives one.

Why are some IP ratings and CD answers blank?

Where a BOSS page disagrees with itself, the answer stays unknown: the MGV500B copy claims both IPX5 and IPX6, and the MR508UABW page's title names the MR500UABW and says no CD. The JVC has no mount format or IP rating here, since no rating is carried over from its optional remote control, and it moves to Unknown details once you choose a format.
