What separates paracord core counts at the same diameter?

Atwood’s 550 Paracord has 7 structural core strands; its 750 Paracord has 11. Both are 4 mm in diameter. Strength is a maker rating.

Breaking figures are not safe working loads or approval for climbing or supporting people.

How the comparison works

Your choices are compared with each model’s product details. A missing or conflicting value stays unknown and cannot satisfy a choice you select. The starting order helps you browse; it does not rate real-world performance.

Source dates appear with each link below. A source date does not confirm today's price or stock.

Diameter and core construction deserve their own comparison

Atwood Rope MFG's Paracord Kevlar - Aramid Black has a 4 mm diameter, 7 structural core strands and a maker-stated tensile figure of 1250 lb. TITAN Survival's SurvivorCord - Black Steel has a diameter range ending at 5 mm and a 620 lb tensile figure, with structural core-strand count unresolved here. Extra wire or tinder is not automatically another structural strand.

Known diameter ceilings span 1.8 to 6.53 mm, while explicit tensile or breaking figures span 180 to 1250 lb. These are maker figures, without breaking-load measurements by us; no shared rating procedure is supplied for comparing their performance. Numbers in a product name never fill a missing strength value.

Breaking strength is not permission to support a person

A tensile or breaking figure is not a safe working load. This is a utility-cord comparison, with no basis for approving climbing, fall protection or supporting people. Read the maker's limitations for your intended use. Structural core counts describe the cord's construction and cannot convert a breaking figure into a safe load.

Before you buy

Does your paracord’s name establish its strength?

Atwood’s 95 Navy page gives 180 lb tensile strength; its 1100 Glow page gives 600 lb maximum breaking strength. The comparison uses the explicit maker figures rather than a number inferred from the name. Neither is a safe working load.

Can I use the tensile rating as a working load?

These are manufacturer-reported tensile or breaking figures, not safe working loads.

Why are some strand counts missing?

For your cord choice, fishing line, wire or tinder is not automatically a structural core strand. An unclear structural count stays unknown. Diameter maxima retain the maker’s upper tolerance where given; these are utility cords and their breaking figures establish no safe working load or suitability for supporting people. Atwood’s 550 Paracord has 7 structural core strands; its 750 Paracord has 11. Both are 4 mm in diameter. Strength is a maker rating. For more core strands at that diameter, 750 differs from 550. Tensile or breaking figures are not safe working loads; these comparisons establish no suitability for climbing or supporting people.
