Do brighter camp lanterns run for less time on high?

At the upper end, yes. Goal Zero's Lighthouse 600 is rated 600 lm and 2.5 h on high at 498 g, while its Lighthouse Micro Charge gives 150 lm for 7 h at 87 g.

Goal Zero and BioLite each rate their own lanterns.

How the comparison works

Your choices are compared with each model’s product details. A missing or conflicting value stays unknown and cannot satisfy a choice you select. The starting order helps you browse; it does not rate real-world performance.

Source dates appear with each link below. A source date does not confirm today's price or stock.

Peak brightness does not buy a longer evening

Goal Zero rates the Lighthouse 600 at 600 lumens, with 2.5 hours on high. Its Crush Light has a maximum rating of 60 lumens with 3 hours on high. BioLite's AlpenGlow Mini and the Lighthouse Micro Flash both have maker-rated maximum outputs of 150 lumens, but their high-mode runtime figures differ. Compare the brightness setting and runtime together rather than choosing by the peak output alone.

The makers' high-mode figures run from 2.5 to 7 hours. Conditions vary between manufacturers; maximum output can decline as the battery discharges.

Battery capacity and carrying weight answer different questions

Beam output and battery depletion have no measurements behind the lighting descriptions compared here. Weights range from 68.04 to 498 g among the 9 lanterns with weight information. Goal Zero's Lighthouse Core has no weight value here, so it cannot qualify under an active weight ceiling. Check whether a maker's weight includes batteries before comparing the load you will carry.

Battery capacities span 500 to 6400 mAh, but capacity alone cannot predict runtime at a particular setting. BioLite's AlpenGlow designs and the Goal Zero models also need their own charging instructions: identify which cable and power source you will bring before leaving home.

Before you buy

Does peak output last for the whole runtime?

The maker pages don't say it does, and brightness can be lower as the battery runs down. Goal Zero's figure for the Micro Flash and Micro Charge is a full-battery rating, and their average over a charge is lower.

Why is the Lighthouse Core weight missing?

Goal Zero's page gives pound and gram weights that don't agree, so neither is used. Its 430 lm and 4 h on high are shown as Goal Zero gives them. If you want both, BioLite's AlpenGlow 500 is rated 500 lm and 5 h on high at 380 g.

Does a bigger battery mean a longer runtime?

Not reliably, if you're comparing across models. The Lighthouse Mini Core and AlpenGlow 250 both hold 3,200 mAh, yet Goal Zero rates the Mini Core at 4 h on high and BioLite rates the AlpenGlow 250 at 5 h, and they run at 210 lm and 250 lm on high.
